I'm in the Band!

I am in two bands at Exeter: the Concert Band and the Nestico Band. I currently play the baritone saxophone. I played alto from fourth to eighth grades; then when I came to PEA, they had enough altos already in the Concert band but they needed tenors, so that's what I played. Then lower year, we got another tenor player or something, so now I play bari (pronounced "berry," please). I am very lucky that both the tenor and the bari are new as of my prep year, so they're really beautiful instruments. (I am not lucky in that we just finished paying off my alto in eighth grade, and then I didn't play it anymore...)

Concert band is a non-audition group of about 30 kids from all four grades. We play holiday songs for the holiday concert, and marches or other similar music for the other concerts. I've been in this band since winter term of prep year, except of course when I was at TMS.

The Nestico band is considered a "stage band," or jazz band. There are two stage bands (Niehaus and Nestico) which are both audition groups. Nestico happens to be the upper one. I played with Niehaus for one year, and Nestico for another.

Mr. Schultz directs the Concert band. Some classic Schultz humor:

Hey, clarinets, you're playing like a model. (What?) A little behind!

(When the bottom of someone's clarinet fell off) You get the no-bell prize!
